Mike came out to start the fight with a lot of intensity, you can see he was putting a lot on every punch he threw throughout the fight.
The one problem he had was he was too excited, he managed to put himself in vulnerable positions after losing his balance a few times.
Sometimes a fighter can get so jacked up he doesn't realize its actually doing more harm to himself than good, you have to stay focused on what your trying to do in there.
In the early stages of the 1st round I really felt as if Mike Swick was going to finish DaMarques Johnson by the end of the round, but DeMarques was able to ground Mike for a better part of the round.
Once Mike lost his balance DaMarques pounced on him, the one thing you have to do in the UFC is capitalize on every advantage your given.
In the 2nd round I didn't know what to expect, I really didn't know how much more Mike Swick had left.
When you think of all his body suffered, you think about the fact he just spent most of the 1st round with his opponent holding him down, it definitely has to take a lot out of you.
He would eventually reach down deep inside to score with a 2nd round knockout win over DaMarques Johnson, it was a great scene to watch a UFC great make his comeback like that.
What made the finish so shocking was it happened so quick, DaMarques threw a kick that Mike was able to block, Mike Swick then managed to put him down and just bury some shots into his face.
The knockout over DaMarques Johnson would reward Mike Swick with the knockout of the night, winning any one of the UFC post fight bonuses is always a prestigious honor.
So many times you see a fighter come back from major illness, they lose a lot of what they once had, they also seem to be easier to knock out.
The way Mike Swick looked last night was amazing when you think about all he had to recover from, he suffered from a serious stomach disease that prevented him from doing his daily routine as a fighter.
He was unable to train or move around the way he needed to in order to prepare himself for future fights, he was forced to withdrawal from two fights in 2011.
After finding out he was suffering from stomach disease, he would later on be sidelined with a knee injury.
Sometimes when an athlete is unsure of what their body can do, they will put themselves through things they are not ready for causing additional injuries.
It would go on to be Mike's first UFC win since June of 2009 when he defeated Ben Saunders by knockout, that fight earned him his first knockout of the night award.
This is a fighter who absolutely refuses to give up, no matter what happened last night just the fact he got himself into shape to fight was remarkable in itself.
After putting on a show last night you have to wonder whats next for Mike Swick, as a UFC fan it was a privilege to watch him make his return.
Hopefully Mike Swick has just began another great run in the UFC, I really hope he stays healthy so we can continue to watch him grow as a fighter.
