Rangers Win It In Shootout

The New York Rangers were the first to strike late in the 2nd period with a power play goal from #10 Marian Gaborik.

It was Marian's 19th of the season, and got the offense started for New York.

This was a great game for the first two periods both teams got some really good efforts out of their goalies.

The blueshirts had a tough hurdle to climb after the injury to #6 Wade Redden in the 1st period.

the referees seemed to call it down the middle until the 3rd period when Florida's #65 Victor Oreskovich delivered a dirty hit on New York's #20 Valec Prospel which should have resulted in a charging call.

Victor lined V. Prospel up, and took way more than 3 steps prior to the hit.

#97 Matt Gilroy stepped in to throw some punches at Victor Oreskovich, and would end up getting the extra two minute penalty for instigating.

You cannot dispute the two minutes on M. Gilroy but the only reason there ended up being a fight was because the referees failed to see an obvious penalty on the Florida Panthers.

What also puzzled me was Matt Gilroy getting a game misconduct I really don't know what that was about.

I hope to hear an explanation on that because I am definitely left dumbfounded on the whole play.

New York would end up getting burned with the win in a near grasp the former Ranger #19 Dominic Moore was able to put one past #30 Henrik Lundqvist.

Henrik played a great game the Rangers had many chances to rack up some goals throughout the game, and were unable to capitalize.

The king cannot stop everything even he is human.......Well sometimes he is human then most of the time he is in another league.

After 3 periods of regulation time he managed to go 22 for 23 on saves allowing only the one goal.

The 5 minutes of overtime were not enough to determine the outcome of this game as the referees missed another call during the last minute when the Rangers #38 P.A. Parenteau was pulled down on a breakaway.

P.A. Paranteau came up big in the shootout with the game winning goal in the 2nd round to turn it over to his goalie who played an amazing game.

Henrik Lundqvist was able to stop #9 Stephen Weiss on a beautiful backhanded shot to secure the victory.

After a big win it will get even tougher for New York in their next three games, they will be traveling to Tampa Bay to take on the Lightning at 7:30 pm eastern time on Friday night.

If the blueshirts can maintain their progress through that game then they will have to continue it on Saturday and Monday as they will have back to back games with the defending Champs the Pittsburgh Penguins.

To make a statement you have to play well in those 3 games, and now is the time to take advantage.

It would be real nice to shut down Pittsburgh's #71 Evgeni Malkin and #87 Sidney Crosby, and after losing the season opener to them it could be time for retribution.
