Although the Yankees are sitting very comfortable right now there is many free agents right now who could fill some important gaps. This picture belongs to ESPN.com
It is crucial to get the deals done so the Manager Joe Girardi will know what players he will coach well ahead of time then he can take the time to get familiar with what they can do on the Baseball field.
Starting with the bullpen now that you unloaded left handed reliever Phil Coke you can definitely find a huge upgrade with Mike Gonzalez at the age of 31 he has a career 2.57 ERA in 280.2 innings.
M. Gonzalez is another lefty that can go with Damaso Marte who came up big during the 09 playoffs.
Mike also had a 2.42 ERA in 70.1 innings striking out 90 batters last season, he is a pitcher who is continuing to grow day by day.
Wrapping up a center fielder this early in the off season creates much more depth as there is still some talented outfielders on the roster.
The Yankees are full of all stars so I doubt they will go after the 34 year old slugger Vladimir Guerrero unless he will come for a cheap price to become the everyday DH, well that also depends on what will happen with the 2009 World Series MVP Hideki Matsui.
If your looking for some power in the corner spots of the outfield you can shed looks at Jason Bay, and Matt Holliday either player could provide more power from the right side of the plate.
Another question that will remain regarding the outfield is if they will decide to resign Xavier Nady who is coming off of tommy john surgery causing him to miss the majority of the 2009 season.
If they are serious about trading 2B Robinson Cano to maybe go after Roy Halladay then there one player who can maybe fill the void at least defensively in the 31 year old Orlando Hudson.
If your looking to add another catcher who can backup Jorge Posada you have Yorvit Torrealba who is 31 years old, and would provide a lot of pop way more than Jose Molina did.
I am not saying go out and get every big name on the market I am just pointing out that there is many options remaining for the Yankees.
Right now I expect New York to sit still but then again you never know they seem to always find a way to make the best deals during the holiday season.
