The Bean Balls Between the Red Sox And The Yankees

This season there has been some tension between the Yankees and the Red Sox regarding the bean ball situation as well as any other year but the Yankees among other teams have started to retaliate. Big name players are being thrown at and it is not good part of the game. Its one thing to give chin music it is another thing to hit somebody up high intentionally.

Pedro Martinez was a big part of what set the feud off in 2003 when he hit Alfonso Soriano and Derek Jeter back to back sending them to the hospital for the remainder of that game. Pitchers like Pedro don't have any respect for other players they don't seem to have a problem throwing at someone’s head with a mid 90's fastball. Martinez has lost his velocity and as you can see if he cannot intimidate the batter he will not be effective.

When Clemens threw a ball near Manny Ramirez head in 03 he triggered Martinez has he pointed at his head implying to Jorge Posada that he would have to step in against him. Martinez was despicable in throwing Don Zimmer on his head the man is old enough to be someone’s grandfather.

For season after season Alex Rodriguez has been getting thrown at by a lot of major league pitchers as him along with Derek Jeter and Johnny Damon lead in the hit by pitch stat for the last 5 years. Granted Damon has been a Yankee for a while but to see Jeter and Rodriguez be up there I don't see Ortiz or Ramirez on that list.

So when you see the Red Sox complain whenever they are hit by a pitch you have to look back and realize this Yankee team will not put up with it. Maybe past Yankee teams let the Red Sox get away with the intimidation factor but not anymore as they provide many arms who can throw in the high 90's. Joe Girardi made that clear that if you want to take liberties with players like Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter then there will be a price to pay.

When you hear Youklis complain about Joba Chamberlain throwing up and in on him just look at the picture above which says it all. On a play at the plate Kevin went to take out Joba's legs which caused Joba to throw up and in on him the first pitch on Youklis next at bat.

Look around the league its funny how Boston has this problem with more than one team tha'ts why more brawls are going on at Fenway Park this season as teams are now fighting back. It is a disgusting part of the game and it’s good to see that it’s starting to balance out. Looking at the picture below is an example of teams having enough of the Red Sox act.

Good to see the bean balls will not be tolerated anymore as the tide has turned for the New York Yankees. There is no place for stuff like that in the game hurting someone there is no competition in that when you’re playing baseball. The Red Sox and Yankees play each other 6 more times during the regular season a 3 game series in Boston then a 3 game series at Yankee Stadium it should be interesting to see some more fireworks between the two teams.
