Jason Giambi says farewell to Oakland and the Bronx as he travels to the National League to represent the Colorado Rockies.
The 38 year old Jason Giambi was released by the Oakland Athletics earlier in the season but as of today has signed with the Rockies to help them down the stretch.
The Rockies record stands at 69-54 remaining two games in front of the San Francisco Giants for the National League Wild Card race. Giambi is an experienced veteran and hopes to regain his swing to work his way back to October baseball.
From July 20th on he has found his way on the disabled list with a strained right quadriceps muscle but says he is now ready to play. So far this year Giambi hasn't been a reliable name to throw into the lineup.
Giambi's stats this year consists of a .193 batting average 11 home runs and 40 RBI. Jason is a lot more than that he can bring a lot of experience to this Rockies team.
In the big spots you know Giambi will take the same swing he takes when the game is not the line.
Jason Giambi will never change his approach at times he will try to pull the ball too much but when he stays on the ball and drives it the other way he is a valuable asset to any lineup.
Giambi has had many moments in his career and hopes to relive those moments for his new ball club.
For Jason Giambi as a Yankee fan I remember what he did in 2003 playoffs in an American League Championship game with 2 home runs in one game off Pedro Martinez and the Boston Red Sox.
Jason has a lot of class and is never a man of any excuses. He plays each and every game like it is his last. There may have been times Jason has really disappointed fans but you cannot question his effort.
If you are looking for defense Giambi will never be the answer but his bat could never be ignored. Jason has a .282 career batting average with 407 home runs 1319 RBI and 1864 base hits.
If you are Colorado you have to be excited to know that you have a player like Giambi as the season winds down with the look of playoff contention. In the post season Jason has hit a solid career .289 with 7 home runs and 18 RBI in 135 at bats.
