The New York Yankees started a 3 game series against the Chicago White Sox tonight by winning in once again dramatic fashion. The New Yankee Stadium is quickly building its history with these walk off wins. Coming into a new stadium was scary thinking of all the Yankee tradion, but there is something special about the new Yankee Stadium.
CC Sabathia pitched a great game as he pitched 7 innings allowing 2 runs striking out 10 batters on the night as did Mark Buehrle. Buehrle went 6 innings giving up 2 earned runs and was lights out after the 3rd until his departure from the game.
Everything was capped off with a 3 run walk off home run by New York Yankees 26 year old second basemen Robinson Cano. Cano had one hit on the night but that was all he needed to give the Yankees a 5-2 win giving Brian Bruney the win out of relief to bring him to 4-0 with a 4.34 ERA.
I have been ripping the Yankees outfielders constantly lately but it is funny that two plates at the plate in both spots and both guys were thrown out. Jose Molina goes out of his way to block the plate which is what your catcher is supposed to do.
What a difference Jose made in this game as there were two plays that Posada normally would have blown. The reason Posada would not have made those plays is because he would have been standing as far away from the plate as he could.
In the top of the 7th inning the White Sox had a great chance to grab the lead from the Yankees, but only were able to score two runs to tie the game. I know some fans will say yeah but he gave up 2 runs in the 7th, and was shaky all inning.
Let’s not forget two straight games where Burnett and Sabathia combined for giving up 5 runs over 13 innings. As good as A.J. and CC are even they look a million times better with a real catcher behind the plate.
Molina made a beautiful play to bring the Yankees into the bottom of the 10th inning, as he fielded a swinging bunt and put on a beautiful throw off the run to get the runner at first. The things Jose does behind the plate are just play fun to watch.
Derek Jeter got the game going with a solo hr his 17th of the season, as he went 1-5 tonight but still has a good batting average of .329. Jeter has been proving a lot of pop out of the lead off spot as him and Damon have blown up as the one two punch.
The Yankees have one of the best lineups in Baseball, again you saw it tonight why is Cano batting 7th? Robinson Cano is a lot better than a number 7 hitter.
Alex Rodriguez made a beautiful diving play at third base that saved a huge run in the top of the 7th inning. Arod stopped the ball from going down the line for a double, as he has been showing signs of recovering from his surgery.
Phil Hughes came in relief of CC Sabathia pitching a 123 8th inning to turn the game over to Mariano Rivera with a 2-2 tie in the 9th. Girardi has to stop over managing or he will eventually burn out his pitchers.
This is a game tonight that you could have saved Rivera as Hughes dominated the 8th the way he has since his transformation to the bullpen. Rivera and Bruney also dominated throwing scoreless innings each keeping the Yankees alive until the big Robby Cano bomb.
