This was once a country where a man was not allowed to play major league baseball because of this country. There was so many african americans who could have reached great heights in the MLB.
It all came to a half as Jackie Robinson became the first african american to ever play in the major leagues. Jackie Robinson a man who had the ability to steal the plate and display pure heroics.
Turn back the clock Jackie Robinson was a true American. At the young age of 23 Robinson served 31 straight months overseas for the US Army. After that you would think this country would reach out to a man who dedicated his life to all of our freedom and way of life.
However this country decided to discriminate against this man among others that would have brought more excitement to the game.
Jackie turned all of that around by breaking into professional baseball with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 as he worked his way up from the minor leagues.
Robinson was an incredible player. Based on stats taken off ESPN.com Jackie Robinson hit a career .311 batting average 137 home runs 734 RBI 947 runs scored with 1518 base hits in 1382 games played.
All that he represented paved the way for many african american baseball players. Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr, Ken Griffey Sr, Frank Robinson I could go on forever.
Jackie will be a name that will linger on till the end of time for all the fans that he reached along his career.
Look on for the next time that Major League Baseball pays tribute to this man as most players for one game each season wear the #42.
