NHL Referees need to improve

The NHL officials have been too inconsistent for the last few seasons as they are slowly killing real hockey. It is hard not to make the point that something needs to be done by the League and that fact that the unprofessional officiating has gone on as long as it has is deplorable.

When you watch a hockey game you want to know that you are going to see a fair game.

I am tired of watching a big game between two great hockey teams come down to either a horrible call or a play that should have resulted in being a penalty.

There was a time when watching a hockey game meant exactly that you were not watching a sport that would cater to curtain players in the league. Every game meant something and the playoffs were just plain battle to battle game in and game out.

Now you watch a game and you will either see a player get away with murder or have a penalty called on a player who did nothing. It is getting to the point where you got to wonder what kind of sport needs its officials to cater to star players like that.

You watch a player like Sydney Crosby who is one of the most talented hockey players to play in the NHL. Why on earth would that guy need any help at all?

Crosby is a big game player and if anything by catering to him you cause a lot of hockey fans to hate a guy who will end up being a mega star for years to come.

I remember the last season Jaromir Jagr was a Ranger I saw players constantly get away with head hunting on him with dirty hits. You would think if you are going to protect your stars that Jagr would be in the category.

I don't know if any of it has to do with Colin Campbell and the fact he was a horrible head coach for the Rangers and they booted him out.

The Rangers last playoff series resulted in a heart breaking loss as the referees were as usual terrible. They seem to miss curtain calls that should be made if a Ranger is pulled down in a big spot in a big game or call Sean Avery for breathing on someone.

Alex Ovechkin is another star potential NHL legend who was given calls that whole series. If you watched that series he really does carry that offense.

That is the sort of things that can bring down a series that should have came down to two outstanding goalies Henrik Hundqvist and Simeon Varlamov Varlamov who managed to shock the hockey world and show he is for real at the age of 21.

Hopefully the referees will improve because the NHL has a huge amount of talent and just continue to bring players with amazing ability. It would be great to see the game be a game where the referees let the game to back to heavy hitting and hard nosed players.

Sean Avery would be your favorite player if were on your favorite team he is one of those guys and the referees have especially gone too far with how they have treated him.

The NHL needs to do something about the officiating because they are ruining the game.
