Jorge Posada a problem behind the plate

First off it needs to be said that Jorge Posada is and always will be a New York Yankee he has been a great part of the team and organization for many years.

I like how Jorge Posada will speak his mind and speak up for what he believes. When you’re the kind of guy that will speak up you are a leader.

Posada does have baseball knowledge you can tell with the way he has helped solve Joba Chamberlain’s problem of working way too slow on the mound. Jorge is a big bat in any lineup as he has blasted his way into Yankee fans hearts.

The problem with Jorge is he is so loved that people seem to overlook the fact that he is defensively a horrible catcher. The one thing that he could do as a catcher throw out runners is something that he simply cannot do anymore.

There was a time when Posada would gun everyone down but since he has hurt his shoulder it has exposed his weaknesses as a catcher more and more.

You notice he has to call for more fastballs with guys on base now because he knows he doesn't have the arm he use to have. The current right hand injury he has you got to wonder if some of it is caused by his shoulder.

Posada seems to always get a pass and I don't understand how he is mentioned in the class of guys like Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera if you look back Jorge Posada was not a big player on those championship teams I mean I'm sure you can pull up a highlight of something he did but don't tell me he is a Jeter or a Rivera he will never be.

I look back and see so many great pitchers that have had a problem pitching to him and two names right away come to mind El Duque Orlando Hernandez and Randy Johnson two guys who are not afraid to state their opinions. Posada is so bad that guys don't want to pitch to him, you can see the expression on the Yankees starters this year and you can see they are sick of him catching.

Posada gets crossed up on pitches all the time which should make people wonder why is it this guy has a problem working with that many pitchers it’s not like its one or two guys I can go all day about how many pitchers that needed to pitch to another catcher on the Yankees.

Ever since his injury when he was in the Minors as a young player Jorge Posada has been afraid to block the plate with a runner scoring on a play which makes it that much tougher to throw guys at. You cannot have a catcher who is afraid of the runner or a catcher who thinks he has to call every game like he is Thurman Munson.

Hopefully the Yankee broadcasters will eventually tell it like it is and stop protecting Posada because he is only exposing himself for being a terrible catcher.

Time to stop blaming the pitchers for why Jorge cannot get the signs straight its time to stop blaming the pitchers for why Jorge Posada can't get down to block the ball time to stop blaming your outfielders for not throwing guys out at the plate when your catcher stands ten feet in front of the plate so nobody makes contact with him.

As much as you may like Posada it’s a business a job as well as any other when a guy is becoming a problem you find someone else to do the job. Posada is nothing more than a DH and that is where he belongs.
