The New York Rangers Ready To Return With Some New Blueshirts

The biggest move for the Rangers this off-season has been acquiring Marian Gaborik. Ready to return from injury if he can stay healthy Marian will work his way into putting this team on his back. Gaborik progressed into being one of the leagues best scorers. Gaborik is the name Rangers fans have waited for since the departure of Jaromir Jagr who set the New York Rangers record for most goals in a season with 54 in the 2005-2006.

The New York Rangers have been working hard to develop a better team after the fall of last season. They lost a 2 to 0 lead in last years playoffs to be upset by the Washington Capitals. Nikolai Zherdev who is only 24 years old was held quiet throughout the series against Washington showing that he was not ready to be the big scorer on the big stage.

Nikolai Zherdev at this point looks to be finished as a New York Ranger as he plans to play in the KHL. There is many ways to feel about this some fans will say if you can't do it in the playoffs get them out but I still feel like he will break out putting up the numbers his talent is projected to put up.

You got to look at the fact that Zherdev in 2005-2006 as a Columbus Blue Jacket skyrocketed in numbers for his career scoring 27 goals in 73 games. Last season for the Rangers Zherdev scored 23 goals 35 assists and 58 points and played in all 82 regular season games. At points Zherdev was punished for mistakes but he was a solid player throughout the year and it would be great if he and the Rangers could get a deal signed.


Scott Gomez is without any doubt a talented player but did not earn the contract that he signed with New York. He was inconsistent he played his game but just had no scoring touch. Many times the team would watch him dangle up and down the ice with the puck and not do anything with it a big nothing. There were so many games where he would just constantly miss the net.

Montreal will be a great fit for Gomez as his play making style should force Alexei Kovalev into using his shot more. The Rangers rebounded from that trade the moment Gaborik signed because immediately you have replaced Gomez with a top player.

It is always a gamble to sign a player who was hurt for most of the previous year but still with the acquisition of Gaborik that stands at the top of many more moves that will keep this team moving forward.

Vincent Prospal was picked up as an unrestricted free agent a player who has reached 33 goals in a season. The big enforcer Donald Brashear signed with the New York Rangers who will be there anytime someone throws a cheap shot at Sean Avery or anyone else on the Ranger team.

This new Ranger team will look to pile on the offense bringing back captain Chris Drury who played hurt in the playoffs last year looking to be at the top of his game this year. How much more can you say about the transformation from last year to going into pre season with the names they have on paper?

It gets even better when you mention the man the legendary captain of the New York Rangers one of the biggest winners in sports Mark Messier has been made the special assistant to the President and General Manager Glen Sather. Look out they are coming back with one of the leagues best goal tenders the first goalie to ever win at least 30 games in his first 4 seasons in the NHL Henrik Lundqvist.

Henrik is coming off a 38 win season looking to insert him into the history books as an elite goaltender. This team will have it all going into the new season new life new faces new attitude ready to take the league by storm.
