Arod And Tex's Homers Win Game Two

Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira were the whole Yankee offense as they beat the Minnesota Twins in game two to take a 2 game lead in dramatic fashion.

The two sluggers were a combined 4 for 9 in the game with 3 runs scored, and 2 HR's driving in four runs.

A.J. Burnett looked really good pitching with Yankees backup catcher Jose Molina behind the plate for his first career post season start.

His final line looked good at 6 innings pitching allowing one run on 3 hits while striking out six in the game.

A.J. Burnett was rolling along until he almost ran himself into some problems in the top of the 4th inning.

He gets a lot of movement on his pitches, and sometimes that can give him problems with his control.

While getting two outs quickly he hit back to back batters being Twins Delmon Young, and Carlos Gomez.

Minnesota's 3B Matt Tolbert delievered with a two out single, but the Yankee captain SS Derek Jeter called for a throw at second from Nick Swisher.

The throw would nail Carlos Gomez at 2nd base before the run could score to end the inning at 0-0.

The Yankees went down 123 in the bottom half of the 4th, as Alex Rodriguez ended the inning with a ground out to first.

New York's starting pitcher A.J. Burnett came back in the 5th painted both sides of the plate continuing to handle the Twins with ease after allowing 2 two out walks.

A.J. came back with two outs as he got Minnesota's Jason Kubel to end the inning with a ground out to Yankees 2B Robinson Cano.

Minnesota Twins pitcher Nick Blackburn was brilliant pitching 5 2\3 innings allowing only one run on 3 hits.

N. Blackburn showed a lot to his ball club going against the Bronx Bombers, and finding a way to get some big outs.

Nick who like A.J. Burnett was also pitching in his first career post season start as they were incredible.

After getting the first two outs of the 5th inning N. Blackburn's no hitter was broken up by New York's 2B Robinson Cano who singled to right.

the 27 year old Twins pitcher would strike out Yankees CF Melky Cabrera to end the inning, and turn the ball back to A.J. Burnett in this scoreless affair.

So far New York manager Joe Girardi's decision to catch Jose Molina was paying off at this point.

In the top of the 6th inning A.J. Burnett gave up a two out RBI single to Minnesota's pinch hitter Brendon Harris.

You cannot blame A.J. Burnett who had an outstanding game.

One major advantage is that the Yankees could pinch hit Jorge Posada at any time in the game to complete the search for runs.

To lead off the 6th skipper Joe Girardi would pinch hit Jorge Posada for Jose Molina.

Jorge took a great swing but would pop out to left field.

Down 1-0 in the bottom half of the 6th captain clutch Derek Jeter drove a one out ground rule double to right center field.

LF Johnny Damon worked a great at bat to get the base on balls to give 1B Mark Teixeira an opportunity to break through with some runs.

Twins pitcher Nick Blackburn would challenge Tex to get him to pop up to left for the 2nd out.

The Yankee fans stood up for Alex Rodriguez who came up to bat with two out, two on 0 for 2 in the game.

Alex drove in his 3rd RBI of the 2009 ALDS in his 2nd game as he was able to get the Yankees on the board.

Alex finally got a pitch he could turn on, and came through for his team driving in the captain Derek Jeter to try to get his team back in the game.

The Yankees were now tied at one a piece with Minnesota as DH Hideki Matsui came to bat after Nick Blackburn got the hook.

Reliever Ron Mahay would come in to face Hideki, and would kill the rally as he got the 3rd out.

The following inning would be another big moment for New York as manager Joe Girardi sent Joba Chamberlain in to pitch the top of the 7th.

After getting two outs Joba allowed a base hit to Twins catcher Joe Mauer up the middle to get the yank from skipper Joe Girardi.

Lefty Phil Coke would come in to strikeout Jason Kubel to end the inning.

The 8th inning would be a tough one for New York's Phil Hughes, who gave up the lead in the game as Minnesota scored two runs in the inning.

During the inning Joe Girardi brought in closer Mariano Rivera after P. Hughes had allowed the go ahead hit.

Mariano would also give up a one run base hit, but the run would go to Phil Hughes ERA.

M. Rivera would bounce back to get the final out on a strikeout hoping for the Yankee bats to start pounding out runs.

With one out new 3B Twins Brendon Harris was their big player of the game after getting two clutch hits, he robbed SS Derek Jeter in the bottom of the 8th inning to quiet the crowd.

The hopes of New York climbing back in the game were starting to lessen as they were about to head into the 9th down by two.

1B Mark Teixeira started the bottom half of the 9th with a line drive single to right field.

Once again on the big stage the Yankees would applaud for their 3B the great Alex Rodriguez.

Alex looks so focused in the late innings, and tied the game up for New York as he launched a HR to right center field.

Alex showed a tremendous amount of power to the opposite field.

It would be A. Rodriguez's first HR of the 2009 post season, and the 8th of his playoff career.

Alex would be 2 for 4 after the home run with 3 RBI in the game.

Arod is now 4 for 8 in the Series with a HR 5 RBI, putting up a .500 batting average for the first two games.

The Yankees would go into extra frames thanks to Alex Rodriguez who is earning himself some legendary status.

Minnesota's closer Joe Nathan would get a blown save after allowing Arod's two run bomb to even the game at 3.

The Twins had a huge opportunity in the top of the 11th inning as they had the bases loaded with nobody out with Yankees reliever David Robertson on the hill.

The young 24 year old out of Birmingham, Alabama showed a lot of heart as he fought back to get three straight outs to keep the game tied at 3.

Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira sends the fans home happy with a walk off HR in the bottom of the 11th inning to get the 4-3 win, and take a 2 game advantage over Minnesota.

David Robertson would pick up the win after the Yankees got some special hitting from Mark Teixeira, and Alex Rodriguez.

The two have fed off one another having themselves a historical season together.

The Yankees will look for the sweep in game 3 on Sunday as they will travel to Minnesota for a 7:07 pm to battle their old teammate Twins pitcher Carl Pavano.

C. Pavano had a rather high ERA this year with a 5.10 while winning 14 games and losing 12.

Carl is looking to give his old team a rude awakening, and give his new team the power to come back in this already difficult Series.

The Twins will have to deal with another tough pitcher when New York will start lefty Andy Pettitte.

Andy was 14-8 for the regular season with a 4.16 ERA, and was a large part of the teams dominant pitching staff.

Look for Alex Rodriguez to build off his amazing performances, and to carry it on into the rest of the series.
