Yanks Pitching Set For Phillies Sluggers In World Series

The New York Yankees will be very tough to beat with their 3 man rotation for the 2009 World Series.

They have combined for a 5-0 record for the playoffs giving manager Joe Girardi a lot of valuable innings.

CC Sabathia, and A.J. Burnett had a lot to prove when they signed on as members of the New York Yankees this past off season.

There was a lot of expectations going into the season for these two elite pitchers, and they have been impressive their first year in pinstripes.

Then you look at their #2 starter A.J. Burnett who had never thrown a pitch in the post season, has been inconsistent so far.

Although he was unable to earn a decision yet, he did pitch two quality games one in each the ALDS and ALCS.

He however lost his stuff in game 5 of the ALCS, and was getting hit from everyone in the Angels lineup.

He will need to get back on board in the next round as he will look to give the Yankees a real boost at the end of the season.

When you look at their #3 stater you know Andy Pettitte knows how to win big ball games.

Andy has 4 rings with New York, and for most teams would be a solid #2 pitcher.

He has a 2-0 record this October holding hitters to a 2.37 ERA striking out 15 batters in 19 innings pitched.

A. Pettitte came up big in game 6 of the ALCS when he threw a gem through 6.1 innings to help his team get to where they are now.

The seasoned left hander set a record for most wins in a playoff career with 16, and has provided the goods into the later stages of his tenure in New York.

New York's starting rotation is so good that it may overshadow one of the best bullpens in the game today.

23 year old David Robertson has made a name for himself in 2009 in both regular season, and post season.

During the regular season he had 63 strikeouts in 43.2 innings pitched with an ERA of 3.30.

When you look at those numbers you have to also admire the numbers he has put up in the playoffs this year.

In 3 games pitched this October David has a 2-0 record not allowing a run in 3 innings getting some clutch outs that really helped New York get to where they are right now.

Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes have grown through the farm system together combining for two excellent arms out of the pen.

Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes have converted into two of the most feared relievers around.

They had struggled with some of their starts in New York, but has relievers they are untouchable.

In the past Phil Hughes pitched beautifully in the 2007 ALDS against Cleveland with 1-0 record allowing one run in 5.2 innings.

In that Series Phil came in two games, but will almost be remembered for his win in game 3.

During that game in the 2007 playoffs Joba Chamberlain also was lights out as they both relieved retired great Roger Clemens.

Although Joba and Phil have struggled this October they can be very valuable for New York in the World Series.

The Yankees bullpen is pulled together by the greatest closer in history Mariano Rivera.

M. Rivera has the record for most saves in the post season with 37, and can add onto that number as the Philadelphia Phillies are coming to town.

This man means so much to the Yankee organization, he has gotten the team out of so many jams over the years.
