Arod And Swish Blast Yanks Into Game 4 with 2-1 Lead

After being hit in his previous at bat Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez pulled them within one with a 2 run home run to right field off of Cole Hamels.

Alex gave his first hit in 9 at bats for his first World Series HR coming through with 2 big RBI's to get New York back in the game.

It would go down in the books as Arod's first career World Series home run.

The two run dinger also tied Alex for a franchise record with Bernie Williams for 6 home runs in a single post season.

The homer was orginially ruled as a double, but the MLB umpires took the time to look at the replay to get the call right.

You have to respect how the umpires in Baseball make an attempt to get things right as they are constantly looking at ways to improve.

You have to understand players make errors, and officials make bad calls it is not like Football and Hockey where they continuously have it out for curtain players.

New York started the 5th inning in need of some offense, and put on 3 runs to add to the attack started from A. Rodriguez.

Nick Swisher broke out of his funk and led off the inning with a double to be driven in by no other than the Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte.

The captain SS Derek Jeter moved A. Pettitte up to second with a base hit of his own as the momentum began to shift into the Yankees favor.

Johnny Damon continued his streak of clutch hits adding another hit onto his post season resume with a two run double to stretch the lead to two.

The inning was ended on a stupid decision from the catcher Jorge Posada who decided to swing at a 3-0 pitch with 2 on 2 out with his offense rallying.

I try to take the good with the bad when it comes to Jorge, but I am sick watching him put himself in front of the team.

Although he came back with a clutch hitter later in the game he could have hurt New York as it almost did against the Angels in the ALCS.

The 6th inning was an inning that provided a solo home run from Nick Swisher who collected his 2nd hit of the game.

It will be huge if he can find a way to get it going game three was a good start for the right fielder who came into the game struggling.

The Yankees clawed out another run in the 7th on a 2 out 2 strike bloop single to left from Jorge Posada.

A really good sign for the Bronx Bombers in the following half inning was seeing Joba Chamberlain come in, and get a 123 inning to relieve Andy Pettitte.

The Yankees got a clutch pinch hit at bat by Hideki Matsui who clobbered his 2nd home run of the Series with 2 out in the 8th inning.

Hideki is so special to have and coming off the bench it was one of the best options you could give a manager late in the game.

Hideki "Godzilla" Matsui opened up the game to grab a secure lead into the final frames.

Once again the bottom half would come down to another 123 inning from a Yankee reliever this time Damaso Marte.

The left hander struck out 2 out of the three batters he had faced in the inning to get New York to the 9th with a 8-4 lead.

The game came down to Mariano Rivera coming to to nail down the 38th save of his playoff career after helping out Phil Hughes who had been pulled with one out.

Mariano is just truly amazing you could write a book about how much he means to the Yankees.

Andy Pettitte decided to do it with the bat as he has pitched so many valuable innings this season.

As well as picking up an RBI single to help his cause he threw 6 innings allowing 4 runs on 5 hits striking out 7.

He picked up the 17th win of his post season career which stands as a Major League Baseball record one that will be tough to break.

After dropping game one New York has won two straight, and got offense very much similar to the offense they had during the regular season.

It was the first playoff game that I saw in a while where they had multiple players coming up with timely hits.

Nick Swisher and Alex Rodriguez had really been struggling during the first two games of this Series, but they turned that around fast as they stepped up big.

Nick, and Alex together were 3 for 6 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI's in the 8-4 win after combining 0 for 11 in games 1 and 2.

A. Rodriguez had struck out 6 times in his first 8 at bats, but really showed signs of turning over a new leaf as a true legend.

There was a time when you couldn't call him a complete player because of his past troubles in the clutch, but that is no longer the case.

Of course the critics were out the last two days digging up all insults they could think of, but it is new times, and Alex doesn't seem to let anything get to him anymore.

This has in so many ways become his team, and it is up to him to carry the torch if he is willing.

We all know if it doesn't come down to him, that there are many players left in that lineup capable of putting the team on their back.

Tomorrow the Yankees will go at it again in Philly as they will take on the Phillies Joe Blanton for game 4 which starts at 8:20 pm eastern time.

The beast New York's ace CC Sabathia will once again show signs of being a warrior pitching on 3 days rest coming in with a 2009 post season record of 3-1 with a 1.52 ERA.

CC lost game one of this World Series but threw a great game he had just met a pitcher on top of his game that night in Cliff Lee.

Fortunately for New York Cliff Lee will not be throwing on 3 days rest, and I cannot blame him that is tough for anyone to do.

That is why you have to give CC Sabathia so much respect for what he has done, he has definitely been a great pickup as he is a major contributor to this teams success.
