Andy Pettitte picked up win to leave his record at 12-6 with a 4.04 ERA on the year. Andy almost pitched a perfect game last night.
With two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning Jerry Hairston Jr made an error to break up the perfect game which would be followed up by a base hit to also take away the no hitter. Hairston also made a beautiful play the previous inning to save the perfect game.
Andy ended up going 8 strong innings giving up 2 hits and one earned run.
Nick Swisher came through at the plate last night 3 for 4 with home run and 2 RBI. Swish's home run was his 22nd of the season, he will walk into tonight's game with 70 RBI for the 2009 season. If you look at Swisher's power this year he has been a good bat in the Yankees lineup.
The thing that Nick has had problems with is consistency with a .248 batting average. The other thing to look at when you see his average is his on base percentage the guy gets on base a lot producing a lot of runs.
Jorge Posada had a quiet day at the plate going 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts, but was on the same page with Pettitte all game.
Robinson Cano is now batting .316 after a 2 for 4 game last night with 2 RBI. Robby has been driving the ball for a while now bringing in 72 RBI this season.
The Bullpen was on Que with Brian Bruney and Mariano Rivera. Bruney got the first out in the bottom of the 9th inning to turn it over to Rivera after allowing a walk.
Mariano has been great this year getting the last two outs of the ball game last night to pick up save number 37 this season. Rivera has a 1.81 ERA still dominating maintaining his name on a list that could never be touched by anyone else.
Today is September first bring in the 40 month roster and watch the rookies display their abilities. the last month of the regular season should be a wild one as the New York Yankees look to bounce back into the playoffs after a horrible 2008 season.
Tonight at 7:05 pm eastern time Baltimore Orioles starter David Hernandez will take on the New York Yankees A.J. Burnett. Burnett is 10-8 this season with a 4.10 ERA looking to finish the regular season on a good note to make his way into October.
