Yanks Clinch The AL East Division

The New York Yankees have dominated the Boston Red Sox for the 2nd half of the season.

Yanks have defeated Boston 9 out of their last ten games against each other.

Melky Cabrera once again put on another show at the plate going 2 for 3 as he smashed his 13th HR of the season.

The Bronx Bombers had a chance in the 5th to get things rolling, but a horrible call from the 2nd base umpire would result in a double play.

Nick Swisher tagged up on a fly ball, and clearly left in time, but after the appeal was called out.

I don't understand the call it was garbage, and the Red Sox seem to always have the umps on their side.

Hideki Matsui was also a part of the offense when he ripped a two run single in the bottom of the 6th to take the lead for good.

H. Matsui has been significant to the offense as the DH, and will be a decision to make being a free agent after the season.

Robinson Cano picked up his 200th base hit during the ball game, and has had his best season of his career.

Andy Pettitte pitched another solid game going 6 innings, and although allowing 7 hits only gave up 2 runs.

Andy would pick up his 14th win to have a record of 14-7.

Brian Bruney looks good with his #99 as he pitched 1 2\3 innings holding lead for the Yankees.

B. Bruney has been looking like the Bruney of old pitching his way onto the post season roster.

Phil Coke came into the game, and got a huge out striking out David Ortiz to end the top of the 8th with a 3-2 lead.

P. Coke has improved very much in his pitching lately, showing that he can get some tough outs in clutch situations.
The bottom of the 8th would be a nice insurance run for the Yankees after Mark Teixeira hit his 38th HR of the season to give New York a 4-2 lead.

The closer #42 the sandman Mariano Rivera would put the Red Sox to sleep to take home the 2009 American League East Division Title with his 44th save.

Now the Yankees can look forward to the 2009 playoffs after clinching the East, and winning over 100 games.

It was a much deserved celebration for the Bronx Bombers, Alex Rodriguez was a major reason for this incredible season hitting .285 with 28 homers and 93 RBI.
