Tex and Swish Come Through In Yankees Win Last Night

The New York Yankees got timely hitting from Mark Teixeira as they were able to defeat the Los Angels Angels by a score of 5 to 3.

The Bronx Bombers got to Jered Weaver driving in 5 runs on 8 hits handing Weaver his 6th loss bringing him to 15-6 for the season with a 3.85 ERA.

Anytime you can manufacture runs at a consistent rate off a pitcher of Jered's caliber you know you have done something right.

Nick Swisher went 2 for 4 in the game pounding out his 27th home run of the season in the 3rd inning off of Halos starter Jered Weaver.

I have written that I felt Swisher was too inconsistent, and was a tired act I have never been more wrong about a player, and I am happy that I was.

Swisher has shown a lot of offense in his first year as a Yankee, and has been able to improve every day in right field.

Nick has earned the trust of the Yankee faithful by coming through in big game situations all season.

The other big bopper for the Yankees last night was first basemen Mark Teixeira who was 3 for 4 with a 2 run triple vs his former team the Los Angels Angels.

Tex also smashed his 39th double of the season last night driving in his 110th, and 111 RBI for the year.

Mark looks to grab the American League MVP award at the end of the season as he has been beating on major league pitching relentlessly.

The Bronx Bombers second basemen Robinson Cano raised his batting average to .319 as he was able to put up a 2 for 4 game driving in his 77th RBI of the 2009 season.

Brett Gardner has slowly put up solid numbers as he swiped his 21st base of the season last night. Brett is hitting .272 bashing 58 hits in 213 at bats for the season.

I don't have a clue what the Yankees are doing with young Joba Chamberlain. The man pitched a great game, but was only able to throw 4 innings allowing one run on 4 hits.

The only run that Chamberlain gave up was a home run to Vladimir Guerrero in the top of the 3rd inning.

Anytime you give up a home run to a slugger like that you have to be happy that there was nobody on base.

Joba is talented, and will give you some big innings if you use him right. I have always felt that the guy is not a starter, but hey what do I know?

Chamberlain has an unbelievable arm, but I feel that you would get more use out of him if you put him in the bullpen.

If you are only going to let him through 3 to 4 innings a start, then you are better off leaving him in the bullpen anyway.

Phil Hughes although allowing a run on two hits was able to win his 7th game of the year after New York was able to gain the lead in the bottom of the 8th.

The Yankees were more than happy to welcome back Mariano Rivera into the bullpen after missing a few games. Moe picked up his 40th save of the year dropping his ERA to 1.69.

Today will be another game where the Yankee lineup must find ways to produce runs off a great pitcher. The New York Yankees will square off against the Toronto Blue Jays tonight at Yankee Stadium for a 7:05 pm start.

Roy Halladay will get the ball tonight as the Toronto Blue Jays hope to quiet the New York crowd, and shut the Yankees down.

Halladay is supporting a 14-9 record with a 3.03 ERA, and has been one of the best pitchers in baseball for a long time now.

It should be interesting to see how the Jays will handle him after the season as it has been speculated that they are looking to unload his salary.

New York will give another opportunity to Sergio Mitre who comes into tonight's game with a 3-2 record with a brutal 7.02 ERA.

Mitre is receiving more experience pitching at the major league level as Joe Girardi has shown confidence in the right hander.

I like how Girardi has managed Mitre, he has given him every chance to thrive on the big stage. It is now up to Sergio to decide if he wants to remain in the show.

The Bombers lead the Boston Red Sox 7 and a half games in the American League East as they are left with the big record in baseball.

The Yankees are 93-52 now 7 games away from winning 100 for the season. Overall Joe Girardi has bounced back from last year, and has gotten behind players who needed a push.
