Swisher's Walkoff Homer Wins It For Yankees

Nick Swisher tells A.J. Burnett to bring on the pie as he connected with his 2nd home run of the game, a walk off shot to beat the Rays 3-2 last night.

Nick was the center of attention when the night was all set and done he was the big hero bringing in 2 of the 3 Yankee runs on the night.

Swisher has been coming on strong as of late as he has brought his home run total up to 26 for his first season in Yankee land.

For a while I was starting to think that he was a failure in the clutch, and a tired act.

I have never been so happy to be more wrong about a player as I have always wanted him to play for the Bronx Bombers being a huge Yankee fan. Swish has been a major pickup especially with the injury to Xavier Nady.

The more I have watched him lately it looks like he really enjoys playing the game of baseball more than anything. You feel for him when he points at his grandparents you just know there is a lot of good in Nick Swisher.

Alex Rodriguez was 1 for 4 but his RBI single would end up paying dividends as the Yankees outlasted the Rays in a tight game.

Arod picked up his 80 RBI of the season 20 away from the big 100 for the season with 22 games left in the 2009 season.

Chad Gaudin was excellent for the Yankees pitching 6 innings allowing one run on six hits with 6 strikeouts.

Gaudin threw with command all game long bringing his ERA down to 3.42. Chad is an experienced pitcher who knows what he has to do day in and day out.

For the first time in a long time Phil Hughes got hit, and you have to expect that once and a while from any pitcher. Hughes has been great this season giving the Yankees some clutch performances out of the bullpen.

Mariano Rivera would receive the win as he pitched a scoreless 9th maintaining an impressive ERA as it stands at 1.72. You could talk all day about what Rivera means to the New York Yankees, but all you have to do is just watch the man pitch.

Tomorrow at 7:05 pm eastern time the Tamba Bay Rays will look to avoid a 4 game sweep as they start Jeff Niemann on the mound, Jeff has a 12-5 record with 3.67 ERA.

The Yankees will send their very own Joba Chamberlain who is supporting an 8-5 record with a 4.41 ERA. Pray that Joe Girardi gives Joba Jose Molina or Francisco Cervelli to catch tomorrow's game.

The New York Yankees remain 9 games ahead of the Boston Red Sox with a 90-50 record still the best record in baseball.
