Boston Drops 2nd Straight In The Bronx

CC Sabathia struck out Jacoby Ellsbury along with Dustin Pedroia to start the game, and came out strong.

On the strikeout to D. Pedroia he was called out on a pitch that appeared to have caught the corner, but he did not like the call.

Dustin was yelling from the dugout throughout the next at bat for Boston.

Usually umpires have a short fuse when it comes to the Yankees, but I guess the Red Sox are allowed to say what they want.

Victor Martinez took some good swings, but lined out to Melky Cabrera in center to end the inning.

The bottom of the first started off with a scary moment as Yankees captain Derek Jeter lined a single off the leg of Boston starter Daisuke Matsuzaka.

The Red Sox were fortunate as D. Matsuzaka was able to stay in the game to get the next three outs to end the threat.

The inning could have been opened up after Johnny Damon swiped second base.

Victor Martinez has allowed 8 straight stolen bases to the Yankees the last two games, and has looked horrible behind the plate.

Daisuke made some big pitches to Mark Teixeira, and Alex Rodriguez back to back to get two bigs outs with Johnny Damon in scoring position.

CC had his best stuff as usual getting slugger Kevin Youkilis to strike out swinging on a beautiful 1-2 change up that dropped out of the strike zone.

Sabathia came back with a strikeout on Mike Lowell on another changeup that dipped out of the zone.

The following at bat would bring up the great David Ortiz, CC would challenge him with a 2-0 fastball that would be fouled back.

The next pitch was a pitchers pitch as threw the hook in a fastball count to jelly leg D. Ortiz for a called 2nd strike.

David threw his hands out popping up to center to be the six straight out to start the ball game for the Yankees.

The bottom half of the inning was kicked off with a one out double from Nick Swisher to bring up the 26 year old Robinson Cano.

R. Cano drew the walk to give his friend and teammate Melky Cabrera a chance go gain the lead.

Melky roped a liner off Daisuke Matsuzaka but, Dice K rebounded to get the force out at third getting the second out.

Backup catcher Jose Molina couldn't get anything going as he would be the third out after flying out to right field.

The Bottom of the 3rd began with Derek Jeter being hit from a pitch, and he would advance to third on a one out single from Mark Teixeira.

Alex Rodriguez fouled back a fat 3-1 pitch, and looked to be a bit off balance against Matsuzaka in the early going.

After Arod struck out he was called for interference after almost bumping Red Sox catcher Victor Martinez to get the double play.

Alex looked to draw the walk, and started to walk down to first so the interference was accidental.

After getting the first two outs of the 4th Sabathia fell behind on Victor Martinez 3-0, although coming back to make the count 3-2 he walked him to bring up K. Youkilis.

Youkilis fisted off a soft blooper into short center field, but shortstop Derek Jeter flagged it down like a wide receiver to bring up the Yankee offense.

The Yankees got a huge run on a solo HR from second basemen Robinson Cano in the bottom of the 6th inning.

It was Cano's 24th HR of the season, and gave him his 80th RBI.

CC Sabathia ended up pitching 7 scoreless innings allowing one hit striking out 8 to turn the ball over to Phil Hughes in the 8th inning.

Phil Hughes struck out two batters out of his three outs to continue his brilliance out of the bullpen to keep the Yankees 1-0 lead.

The bottom of the 8th would be the inning that decided the game as New York finally got a hit with runners in scoring position.

The Yankees broke the game open, as Johnny Damon came through with a 2 out 2 run single to stretch the lead to 3-0.

Brett Gardner played a major role in that inning after he had stolen 3rd base to give him his 24th SB of the season.

The 9th would belong to no other than #42 Mariano Rivera, who came in looking to do what he does best.

M. Rivera picked up his 43rd save of the year, after striking out two in the inning to give the Yankees their 99th win of the season.

Tomorrow the Yankees will look for win #100 on the season, and to clinch the American League East Division.

The game tomorrow will be a 1:05 pm start, and will wrap up this 3 game series between the two rivals the Boston Red Sox, and the New York Yankees.

Boston's starter tomorrow will be Paul Byrd coming in with a 1-2 record posting an ERA over 6.

P. Byrd has had a history of beating the Yankees for the Cleveland Indians in the 2007 playoffs, but is now on the downside of his career at the age of 38.

The Yankees will send Andy Pettitte to the hill, he comes in 13-7 with a 4.15 ERA.

Andy has been pitching well this year, and looks to take home the 2009 division title tomorrow afternoon.

Alex Rodriguez had a tough 2nd game of the series, but will look to rebound for tomorrow's game.

Expect the Yankees to smack around the declining Paul Byrd, and look for them to be a favorite for the playoffs.
