Jorge Snaps In Yanks Loss To Jays

Yankees catcher Jorge Posada restrained from CC Sabathia after beating up Jesse Carlson of the Blue Jays during the 8th inning.

Roy Halladay looked to have his best stuff with him in the first inning after allowing back to back hits to start the game.

Halladay was able to get Mark Teixeira to strike out with first and second nobody out. He kept Tex off balanced the entire at bat, and got him to chase.

Alex Rodriguez was over anxious flying out to right field as the runners were unable to advance. Roy then froze Hideki Matsui with a beautiful two seam fastball to catch him looking to end the inning.

The 2nd inning would be a different story for R. Halladay as he made some good pitches, but did not get the results that he wanted.

The inning was started off with a Jorge Posada single to right. Jorge turned on the ball nicely as he put the ball in between the first and second hole to start a rally.

After Robinson Cano flew out to left, Nick Swisher fought off a great pitch with a double to left center field to open the inning up, leaving runners at second and third with one out.

Brett Gardner roped an RBI single to right, Swisher could not score on the hit because he had to hold up to prevent being doubled off.

Gardner advanced to second on the play with heads up base running to put two runners in scoring position for the captain Derek Jeter.

Jeter drilled a bullet to left field for a 2 stike single, again they could only score one on the play as they hit the ball hard all inning.

Roy showed why he is one of the leagues best by settling down to get Johnny Damon to hit into an inning ending double play.

Halladay gave up two runs in the 2nd, but you have to admire the way he came back as the game could have been blown wide open.

28 year old Sergio Mitre and Jorge Posada were keeping the Jay's sluggers at bay giving the offense a chance to pick at the veteran R. Halladay.

However Toronto would strike back in the 3rd inning as S. Mitre failed to locate his pitches.

Jorge Posada called for a pitch in on the hands, but Sergio caught too much of the plate resulting in a two run home run to right field by Jay's Travis Snider.

After that Sergio was hit hard from a shot back at him, but fielded the ball up to fire a cannon to first for the out. S. Mitre showed serious toughness on the play.

Later in the inning Sergio Mitre would give up a solo home run to Adam Lind his 30th of the season, as Nick Swisher timed the leap at the wall completely wrong.

You cannot blame Nick as he is improving daily in right field, but there is right fielders who would have made the jumping catch.

The first half of the 3rd inning was rough for S. Mitre as in total he gave on 3 runs on 2 home runs.

One major thing I noticed about the inning is you could see Sergio struggling, and Jorge Posada was making no effort to come out to the mound to say anything.

Jorge will come out when an all star pitcher is dealing strikes, but he won't calm down a decent pitcher who is trying to make it at the big league level.

The bottom of the 3rd would be begin with a one out double for New York Yankees star third basemen Alex Rodriguez.

Arod turned on the ball displaying a quick bat through the strike zone staying on his track of hitting.

Hideki Matsui would bloop a single to right field on the following play, A. Rodriguez had an excellent read, but would be thrown out from a perfect throw from right fielder Jose Bautista.

The feeling on that play is also that Alex is a step slower than what he usually is out there considering he is still recovering from major hip surgery.

The inning would be ended from a strikeout by Jorge Posada as he went chasing after a bad pitch with a weak half swing.

The first 3 innings were rough for R. Halladay as he allowed 8 hits and for him that is unusual to get hit as hard as he was.

More location problems would eat at Sergio Mitre as he left a pitch out over the plate to be crushed for a solo home run from Edwin Encarnacion.

Sergio continued to have problems with the Blue Jay hitters suffering another home run to right field the 4th of the game for Toronto.

The solo shot was Travis Snider's 2nd of the game, and gave R. Halladay a 5-2 lead for the bottom half of the inning.

New York would once again get a one out double to start an inning.. Nick Swisher fell short of a home run smacking his 2nd double of the game off the right field wall.

R. Halladay reached back and got young Brett Gardner to ground out after battling him in a great at bat.

Derek would come to the plate with Swisher on second looking to come through with two outs in the inning.

Jeter tapped out to second the noticeable thing about the play was how D. Jeter always runs one hundred down the line. If you watch he actually made a routine ground out a close play.

Derek would show why he is a 3 time gold glover the following inning as he made a beautiful play going up the middle. Jeter did a 360 throw to first dazzling the Yankee fans with his amazing athleticism.

The bottom of the 5th inning was another example of how tough it is to score runs on Doc Halladay.

Mark Teixeria picked up his first hit of the game going the other way with a line drive to left.

Roy dominated with runners on making Alex Rodriguez tap into a fielders choice to get himself one out away from ending the threat.

Sergio Mitre would come out of the game after pitching 5 innings suffering 7 runs giving up four long balls to the Blue Jays.

After the top half of the 6th Halladay was lights out with a 5 run lead winning his 15th game of the 2009 season to leave his record at 15-9 with a 3.03 ERA.

Fireworks were set off in the game when there was a brawl in the 8th inning after Jessie Carlson threw one behind Jorge in retaliation to Arron Hill being hit earlier in the game.

Arron Hill was hit right on the numbers, and to me that is the best place to hit a batter.

There was no intent to throw at Hill, there would be absolutely no reason why the Yankees would have done that on purpose when the Jays pose no threat in the American League East Division.

Jorge Posada should have let it go, and just went on with the game, but he let his emotions out as he scored on a Brett Gardner base hit.

Posada bumped Jays Pitcher Jessie Carlson on his way back to the dugout. It would have been a really good idea for Carlson to go back to the mound, but unfortunately for him he thought he could take Jorge on in a fight.

Carlson had a large mark on his forehead after the brawl proving further more why he shouldn't fight.

Joe Girardi was cut during the fight it looked to me as if John McDonald of Toronto threw a cheap shot at Girardi, but who knows?

It took numerous players to get Jorge off of Jays catcher Rod Barajas after he had already taken care of Carlson.

If you go by who won the brawl I give it to Jorge, but the fact remains the Yankees lost the game.

The fight should have never happened I understand Jorge doesn't want to be thrown at, but come on get over it the ball was 10 feet behind him.

I'd rather see a pitcher do that than throw at someone's head, Carlson was not in the wrong. That fight happened purely on Posada's ego, he has to realize he is only one man.

Down the stretch your starting catcher is getting into fights with a team 26 and a half games out of first, not a very good idea if you ask me.

If It were the Boston Red Sox I'd understand, but this stuff had no business in the game tonight.

The main story of the game was that Roy Halladay although giving up 11 hits held the Yankees to only 2 runs showing why he should be on a contending team next year.

Tomorrow the Yankees will look for game two of this series at 7:05 pm eastern time, as they will face Brian Tallet who is 7-6 with a 5.26 ERA.

New York will give Chad Guadin the start his 2009 record stands at 5-10 with a 4-81 ERA going into the game.

It should be interesting tomorrow to see if there is any more bad blood between the two teams, after a bench clearing brawl.
