Godzilla Drives In Five To Dominate O's

Hideki Matsui goes deep for his 24th homer of the 2009 season in the bottom of the 8th inning as he went 3 for 5 with 5 RBI to lead the charge for the Yankees beating the Baltimore Orioles 13-3.

The bottom of the first inning began with a single from the captain Derek Jeter. Jeter has been one of the best all around hitters in baseball throughout the season.

Derek scored in 100th run of the season during the game, and has done so for the twelfth time in his 14 year career now.

Alex Rodriguez got things rolling as he rocketed an RBI double over the head of Orioles center fielder Jeff Fiorentino to put the Yankees up 1-0 in the 1st inning.

It seems like everything Arod sees at the plate turns into a laser beam off his bat.

A. Rodriguez is so locked in right now that he is going to be a player to watch out for as October baseball is peaking around the corner.

The Yankees failed to capitalize with runners in soring position as Hideki Matsui got up with second and third one out swinging at the first pitch.

Matsui hit a nubber off the end of the bat back to the O's starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie. The runners were unable to advance sending Yankees catcher Jorge Posada to the plate with two outs.

Posada was fooled the entire at bat as he looked over matched against the crafty lefty.

CC Sabathia struggled with his control early in the game, but as he has all season kept the Yankees in the game.

CC had a rough top of the 2nd inning as he gave up two runs on two hits. The Orioles were able to play small ball against Sabathia this inning.

Justin Turner put the ball in play with runners at the corners nobody out hitting into a solid grounder that was snagged by Cano to get the out at 2nd scoring Nolan Reimhold.

Former Yankee Chad Moeller was able to pick up an RBI in the inning on a sacrifice fly. CC held his composure, and was able to get out of the inning getting Brian Roberts to end the threat.

The entire 3rd inning was a fun one to watch as both teams played magnificent defense.

Melky Cabrera who is improving everyday made a beautiful catch over his head crashing into the wall. I was cringing as he got closer to the wall, but the melk man came down with the grab.

The following play would be a double off the wall which could have been more, but Cabrera played the wall excellently.

I have written it so many times, but it continues to frustrate me when Jorge Posada has to come out to the mound with 2 outs when the pitcher is throwing strikes to break up the rhythm.

From the point that Jorge came out to talk to CC he threw 7 out of his next 8 pitches for balls, and you have to wonder if that is just a coincidence.

Sabathia was able to avoid another Oriole threat as Derek Jeter made a beautiful play at short. Jeter had a one bounce shot take a rough hop on him as he was able to stay with it to get the out.

It always seems like the player who ends an inning with a nice in the play always leads off when
his team comes up to bat again as Jeter led off the bottom of the 3rd inning.

Jeter went the other way like his has his whole career smacking his 27th double of the season down the right field line. Derek hustled into second as he as looked as healthy as he ever has.

Jeter advanced on a sac fly as Johnny Damon was robbed by Jeff Fiorentino. Damon ripped a shot that looked to be off the wall or ever the wall.

Fiorentino would come out of nowhere to one up Melky jumping into the wall with the catch. If he had not made that play then the Yankees would have been able to open the game up.

Jeremy Guthrie went right after Mark Teixeira with a runner on third less than two outs as he got Tex to chop one up the first base line for a ground out.

Derek was unable to score on the play bringing Alex Rodriguez to the plate with two outs.

Guthrie was smart in pitching around Arod as he walked him to find an easier target with Hideki Matsui. Hideki fouled out to third as the Yankees stranded a runner on third trailing 2-1.

The next inning would be a terrible one for Johnny Damon as there is no excuse for what he did.

With a runner on third less than two outs Damon caught a fly ball, and forgot how many outs there were.

Johnny looked completely lost after he caught the ball, as he let the runner advance two bases giving the O's a 3-1 lead.

The Yankees picked Johnny Damon's blunder up as they broke out the bats in the bottom of the 4th inning.

The experienced veteran Jorge Posada roped a line drive base hit to right center to give Robinson Cano a chance to do something.

Cano was able to fist off a bloop single into left field bringing Posada up to second base with nobody out.

Nick Swisher attempted a bunt pulling it foul, Nick is a terrible bunter, and should just swing in those spots.

Majority of the time I would like to see them bunt in that situation, but you cannot make a player do something that he simply doesn't have the ability to do.

Melky Cabrera picked up a two run single to center field to tie the game at 3.

The following play would be a defensive blunder by the Orioles third basemen Justin Turner who fielded a chopper by Derek Jeter.

Turner had a chance to tag Swisher who was running to third but chose to get the out at 2nd on a ball that couldn't have been turned for a double play.

Swisher worked in his way into third to bring Johnny Damon to the plate.

Damon looking to redeem himself after the boneheaded blunder got on base with a walk to load the bases for Mark Teixeira with one out.

Orioles starter Jeremy Guthrie made some big pitches as he got Mark Teixeria, and Alex
Rodriguez on k's back to back to go into the 5th with a 3-3 tie.

Alex was called out on a pitch well out of the strike zone continuing the horrible officiating from the umpire crew this series.

For whatever reason Joe Girardi was ejected the moment the bottom of the 5th started due to his frustration at the inconsistent strike zone.

Joe Girardi lost his temper, and got his money's worth as he had the Yankee fans behind him.

Joe is not the greatest manager but he will do whatever he can to get his team fired up, and will always protect his players.

There is not too many times that you see Arod get as angry as he was. You have to think that there was a reason other than the disappointment at the bad call.

Alex Rodriguez would finish the day 1 for 2 with his RBI double leaving his 2009 average at .287 going into tomorrow's game.

The Yankees got a double by Hideki Matsui to lead off the inning, but once again failed to do anything with runners in scoring position with less than two outs.

Both pitchers looked to be in control in big spots during the game getting themselves out of trouble throughout the first half of the game.

The top of the 6th would be no different for CC Sabathia as he kept the Oriole hitters in check once again to bring up Melky, Jeter, and Damon for the bottom half of the 6th inning.

Melky popped out to center field but Derek Jeter would get on base as he stayed with a curve drilling it to right for his 3rd hit of the game.

Johnny Damon would get his chance to make up for his mental mistake earlier in the game as he turned on a fastball for a single to right advancing Jeter to third.

Jeremy Guthrie had Teixiera's number all game shutting him down to a 0 hits in 3 at bats striking him out twice.

Eric Hinske would step in to replace Alex Rodriguez who had been ejected in the 5th inning. Hinske is a key hitter off the bench, and has driven in runs successfully for New York.

Hinske had a great at bat to get the base on balls to give the Yankees another opportunity with the bases loaded.

The man they call Godzilla would arrive to to the dish with the bases juiced, and two men out. Matsui cracked a 2 run single to right field giving the Yankees a 5-3 lead.

The two run single by Godzilla would mean the end of the game for Orioles starter Jeremy Guthrie who threw 5 2\3 innings allowing 5 runs on 11 hits.

Baltimore let Guthrie pitch entirely took long in the game, as he got shelled in the 6th.

There is only so many times you can rely on your pitcher to keep getting the Yankee hitters out in key situations.

Another former Yankee on the Orioles Sean Henn would come in to pitch to Jorge Posada. Posada would jam the bases for the Bronx Bombers on a 2 out walk to put more pressure on Henn.

The New York Yankees second basemen Robinson Cano came up 2 for 3 in the game, but would end the rally with a strikeout as Sean Henn would escape further damage.

The top of the 7th inning would open up with young Ramiro Pena as a defensive replacement for Eric Hinske at third base. Pena has been itching to break himself into the lineup to show what he can do as a player.

Sabathia as usual was in total sink during the 7th inning getting stronger as the game went on. CC would turn the ball over to Phil Hughes for the 8th inning as he went 7 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits.

Phil Hughes was his typical self as he pitched a nice inning ending it with a strikeout to keep the Yankees two run lead.

The bottom of the 8th inning would be the nail in the coffin for the Orioles as Godzilla struck again. Hideki Matsui connected with his 24th home run of the season a 3 run bomb to right field.

The 8th inning was blown open as the Yankees pushed across 8 runs. Brett Gardner had a RBI ground rule double in the inning as he was sent to pinch hit for Johnny Damon.

Teixeira broke through in the game picking up his first hit of the game a two run double to right.

The Yankees would go on to win their 92nd game of the season going into tomorrow's game. Tomorrow the New York Yankees will face off with the Los Angeles Angels for a one game series at Yankees Stadium.

Tomorrow's game will begin at 7:05 pm eastern time as the Yankees look to take it to the Angels.

The Halos will send Jered Weaver to the mound as he will come in with a 15-5 record putting up a 3.76 ERA. Weaver is a great pitcher that will look to keep the Bronx Bombers off balanced with his arsenal on the hill.

The New York Yankees will counter with Joba Chamberlain who will look to improve his 8-5 record with a 4.45 ERA.

The Yankees have played terrific baseball, and are showing no signs of slowing down.
