Chad Gaudin was exactly what you except out of an alternate starter working 3 2\3 innings pitching a no decision allowing 3 earned runs. Chad will not throw a blazing fastball or a 12-6 beautiful hook but he will give you the results you need.
Toronto Blue Jays starter Ricky Romero was trampled in 4 1\3 innings suffering 5 earned runs on 6 hits. Romero's loss dropped him to 11-7 with a 4.15 ERA on the season.
All season the Yankees have gotten unbelievable pitching out of the bullpen which could bring in a 27th world title.
Alfredo Aceves is now 10-1 after picking up the win out of relief. Ace has been a great arm out of the pen posting a 3.88 ERA this season.
David Robertson came in after Ace to strike out 2 and knock his ERA down to 3.38. I have written it before, and will write it again this guy is going to be a big time reliever for years to come.
Brian Bruney didn't allow a run but when you have a lead like the Yankees had in the bottom of the 9th you need to throw strikes. I don't understand how the Yankees score 3 extra insurance runs to have Bruney go out and walk the first batter of the 9th on 4 pitches.
Bruney has struggled with his control but in those spots I'd rather see him give up a solo home run rather than put guys on base. When a team is down by a few runs the last thing you need to do is give them hope of climbing back into the game.
How scary is it going to be if this is the start of Alex Rodriguez power search? Arod has been driving the ball up the middle hit after hit the last few games. Alex looks like he is so zoned in at the plate that he could hit anybody.
Arod has been a power hitter but when he chooses to spray the ball all over the field he is going to drive in a lot of runs.
Rodriguez hit his 24th home run of the top of the 9th inning a line drive shot. The homer Alex hit reminded me a lot of Mark McGwire's 61st home run of the 1998 season it was just an absolute bullet. Arod was 2 for 4 tonight with 2 RBI as his RBI total is at 77 for the season.
Last night I mentioned Alex Rodriguez having a long road to travel to reach 100 RBI this season, but the way he is swinging it could easily happen at this point. Yankees have 27 games left and ARod 23 RBI to go for 100 RBI.
I have seen Rodriguez go on some incredible streaks at the plate so it should be interesting but if he doesn't reach 100 RBI it won't mean anything because of how many games he missed.
There is nothing else you could want forget home runs they mean nothing he is such an entertaining player when he hits the ball like he has lately.
Jorge Posada had a big night going 4 for 5 with 4 RBI and 2 run home run in the 9th inning. Jorge is now at a .288 batting average showing he is ready for October baseball.
It makes it hard to ever say anything about Jorge's defense when he is as good as he is offensively. Posada does his talking with the bat, and it is great to see him teeing off on the ball.
Again Melky Cabrera was 2 for 4 with a stolen base it seems like that has been the story every game for him. The Melk man is going to be huge down the stretch there is something about him where he comes through in clutch situations.
The Yankees have been winning a lot by getting clutch 2 out hitting late in the game. It feels like it is starting to become a routine to say all of this but the Bronx Bombers have put in work all season.
Tomorrow looks to be a wild game as Toronto's ace Roy Halladay looks to battle the Yankees very own Joba Chamberlain at 7:07 pm eastern time.
Roy Halladay is 13-8 with a 3.13 ERA giving the Blue Jays innings this year. It has been a very confusing season for Roy as he didn't know what team he would end up with during the trade deadline.
You have to imagine the frustration on Roy Halladay to be thrown around the way he has. Roy will look to finish another miserable year in Toronto as he has been their only bright spot.
For the New York Yankees tomorrow they will start Joba Chamberlain who is 8-4 with a 4.38 ERA. Joba was also talked about being traded as it was talked about that he would go to the Jay's in a package for Halladay.
Chamberlain has a lot of the same problem as A.J. Burnett when they are struggling they lose their command. Joba needs to keep the ball down, and use all of his pitches. Sometimes when Chamberlain is in trouble he will look to throw the ball by everyone when he should mix it up.
The Yankees were smart enough to hold onto Joba as they will look to add on to their 7 and a half game lead on the Boston Red Sox for 1st place in the American League East Division.
