If you have watched the New York Yankees this season, you have seen a team dominate the competition for majority of the season.
There have been times that the team has struggled, but mostly has been able to do what they do best.
The bats have come around as well as the pitching giving them 94 wins coming into today.
I read on ESPN.com today, that Felix Hernandez along with Zack Greinke would be the two favorites in the voting for the cy young award.
If you are going to talk about what a player does for a team with the MVP award, then why should that not apply to the cy young award.
These awards can be really contradictory, as the cy young is said to be the MVP award for pitchers.
If you look at Zack Greinke he plays for a last place team with the team record being 59-87 coming into today.
If you take a look at the numbers Zack has produced serious statistics this season with a 2.14 ERA, giving his 2009 season a record of 14-8 at this point.
On the other hand you look at Felix Hernandez who has also been one of the better pitchers in the game with a 15-5 record posting a 2.52 ERA.
The thing about both of these pitchers is that they have a lot less stress on them as players like CC Sabathia.
If you look at the ERA for CC it is a bit higher than Felix Hernandez, and Zack Greinke but he has been a major reason the New York Yankees are in first place.
CC Sabathia has a 17-7 record for New York holding hitters to a 3.42 ERA.
If you have watched the way he has pitched for the Yankees this season, then you would know by now just how valuable he has been.
CC has had a lot of pressure on him arriving to the Bronx this past off season, from the moment he came in he has been expected to be a dominant pitcher.
As talented as Greinke and Felix are you have to look at the teams that they are on, and wonder if they are both individually stuck as the big fish in a little pond.
The other thing I look at when the Yankees is at how talented their farm system is.
When you look down the roster the Scranton Wilks Barre Yankees the triple A team for the New York Yankees organization, they played terrific baseball this season.
There are a few players from that team that have not gotten any recognition for what they can do on a ball field.
I look at a player like Juan Miranda a solid bat who went 4 for 10 during his call up to major leagues for the Bronx Bombers in 2008 last season.
The thing about him is that he will strike out a lot, but he will display massive power driving in a lot of runs.
He had an excellent year in triple A as he batted a solid .290 driving in 82 RBI pounding out 19 home runs for the campaign.
You want to talk about sluggers look at Shelly Duncan who crushed 30 home runs with 99 RBI, and I don't even need to tell people what they have already seen him do at the old Yankee stadium.
If you are looking for a future star in the outfield then you are talking about Austin Jackson.
Austin had a great year the young 22 year old batted .300 this year driving in 65 RBI on 151 hits in 130 games.
Look out for A. Jackson as he will eventually look to take over in the Bronx.
Watching Melky Cabrera lately I have noticed he is just not good enough to be a center fielder, and hopefully someone will be able to fill the spot.
Melky has still progressed into a solid player who can still do a lot of things that can be valued.
The Yankees will be on a quest to bring home another world championship, and will have one of the best lineups in baseball along with the #1 pitching staff.
