One Legend Passes Another

The Yankees lost last nights game but that would not matter to New York fans as captain Derek Jeter gave them all what they came to see.

Jeter broke Lou Gehrig's franchise record for the most hits as a New York Yankee with 2 hits standing at 2723 career hits.

There could have been many players who have had the chance to achieve this, but only one man has accomplished that goal.

Derek did everything to prepare himself for this moment with nonstop attention toward the record.

In my mind I still believe he is going to pound out a lot more in is career, and I do not plan on seeing him ever leave the Bronx.

For a player to play this long as a Yankee is not easy, and to play through nagging injuries makes a warrior.

He has been blasted with 98 mph fastballs on the right hand then returned the following day, and would pick up 3 or 4 hits.

The kind of things that he does put him above the rest in the game. As a baseball player he is great, and as good as he is at the game he is an even better person.

You saw it when he tied Lou Gehrig's record 3 nights ago where he pointed at his sister, you can see a real side of the Yankee shortstop.

You always see these men as superstars, but underneath it all Jeter is just all class. This is a moment that will be remembered forever.

The way the team came out to congratulate him while he was on first after the hit was amazing to watch.

You see the respect he gets around the league, and he deserves all the good things that have happened to him.

Derek has been a Yankee his whole career, and I am sure if you asked him he wouldn't have it any other way.

The New York Yankees have a game at 1:05 pm eastern time today against the Baltimore Orioles as Jeter will look to build on his career hit total.

The Yankees are coming off of a loss last night, but are still holding a commanding lead in first place.

Brian Matusz has a 4-2 record with a 5.26 ERA as he will pitch for the Baltimore Orioles. The Yankees will counter with A.J. Burnett as he will look to take the mound with an 11-8 record and a 4.19 ERA.

Burnett threw a great game his last start pitching to Jose Molina, and I really hope he doesn't have to deal with Jorge Posada catching him today.

Let Posada DH today, and Burnett will pitch a gem. The fact Posada was sent home early last night which leads you to wonder if that means he will start behind the plate today.

If Posada does catch today then I hope to god Burnett stays calm, and just throws his breaking balls regardless of how many fastballs Jorge wants.
